Mongrel's Morsel

The title is like a tongue twister but the experience itself is quite 'twisting'..I have never had dogs as pets in my house and I have only fancied them in Hutch's AD or in Heavy Petting on NDTV Good Times, but my real experience with dogs..domesticated dogs to be precise happened early this year at my friend's home when i had come to Chennai for her engagement. She has two dogs called Candy(who is sweet as the name, docile, sluggish and harmless) and Buddy(dont know if I can closely associate him to his name, but he is more of a devil than Buddy but an adorable Devil :-))
When i entered my friend's place on a very early Feb morning he jumped to my face and after that there was a non stop licking, nibbling, tickling, biting session(hey get back your thoughts here...its a dog iam referring to)..It took few hours for me to befriend Buddy and next two days the most enjoyable moments i spent was with Buddy (sorry not the engagement)...Buddy is a 7-8 month old dog, an off white color mongrel, heavy enough for a 7-8 month with shining eyes as. He has some standard practices; chewing everything that he can lay his eyes on, there is a wide range of such things from slippers, shoes, sofa, food to your toes and fingers..another strong belief of Buddy, if its hidden its interesting, so chappals kept locked in the shoe cupboard or anything placed safely at a height he cant reach is a target for Buddy to achieve sooner or later...
I also found Buddy very romantic and my friend from that day till now calls him my boyfriend (finally i found one)..Buddy would laze around with me, he would walk and brush his thighs against me, if Iam lying on the bed, he would ensure he lies on me, yes anywhere he can; just to feel me against him (dont do that again, bring your thoughts back...its a dog iam talking about)
The day i left i could see Buddy looking at me confused that why am I packing my bag and where am I going..I could only say...Honey will be back for you soon (forgive me Aarthi...it was not ur wedding that pulled me to Chennai:-))
I was back for my friend's wedding last month and reached late night on a Saturday.. The household was full of relatives who had come for the wedding and hence I and Aarthi made ourselves comfortable in the Living room floor on mattresses..Early morning around 5am I felt someone clawing my arms and hair…still I didn’t budge was too much in a deep slumber…but then aaahhh something heavy on my neck…I got up and felt..and who can it be..dear buddy sitting on my neck and there screamed Aarthi’s mom on buddy and he got up and ran…
And as they say Dogs never forget anyone they have sniffed and pick up the trail in a jiffy...So did Buddy...It wasnt a frantic welcome but yes Iam sure he wanted to tell me 'Wow u r back' and here iam giving you a twisted welcome(my neck was a shade lesser than sprained next2-3days)

Next 1 week in Chennai i could spend only sometime in the morning and evening with Buddy...We all kids and Buddy and Candy used to sleep in neighbour's house as they were away in US and the wedding home was packed..And we had mattresses on floor and some of us slept on the diwan and the couch..I chose to sleep on the floor right under the fan and daily morning I used to have a lovely ‘good morning’…This trip I realized another important fact about Buddy, he cannot distinguish objects, human beings and a plain floor…he used to trample me and Aarthi daily morning by walking over us…Believe me literally walking on us and we used to fret and scream to deaf ears..A day before Aarthi’s wedding her hands were adorned with henna(mehndi) and she was instructed to keep that overnight to get a dark color…we got up next morning without being trampled (for a change)only to find Buddy engaged in licking the mehndi…

There are innumerable incidents, stories and experiences with this very notorious mongrel..and the reason why I call this post as Mongrel’s Morsel is because I found Buddy’s fancy to chew and eat everything irrespective of the ‘state of matter’…No matter what, found it hard to find a person who would not have a fancy towards this little devil and wish Buddy you could read this post and get an ego boost of your importance and continue to so adorably trouble us…Till we meet again…
